Apple revealed at its iPhone 15 presentation that all of its upcoming devices, along with the most recent model of its AirPods Pro, will ship with USB-C charging. Apple has already moved to USB-C charging for its iPads and MacBooks.
Apple is giving up its proprietary iPhone charging plug in favor of a more generally accepted connection standard, following the rest of the tech sector. A unified charging guideline for the 27-nation European Union, which will shortly be implemented, is a significant contributor to the issue.
When using USB-C connectors, laptops may be charged more quickly and large amounts of data can be transferred from a computer to an external hard drive more quickly. They can simultaneously power connected devices and pump out a video feed to a monitor.
The change will occur less than a year after the European Union approved regulations requiring USB-C charging capabilities for smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, portable speakers, and other small devices by 2024. The first-of-its-kind rule seeks to reduce the number of cords and chargers that consumers must deal with when they buy a new item and to permit users to mix and match devices and chargers even if they were made by different manufacturers.
