Apple Foxconn Toshiba chip business – CWEB.com
Today Apple Inc is considering teaming up with its supplier Foxconn to bid for Toshiba Corp’s semiconductor business, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported on Friday Apple is considering to invest at least several billion dollars in the chip business put up for sale by Toshiba Corp.
Foxconn is Taiwan owned but it heavily manufactures in China where it churns out products for, among others, Apple. Japan has indicated it would not sell Toshiba’s highly sensitive chip business to China. So what will happen here?
“Toshiba is the world’s second-largest chip manufacturer, with its products used in data centres and consumer goods worldwide, including iPhones and iPads.”
That would make Taiwan companies the number one and number two largest chip manufacturers.
