Apple Inc. has officially announced that it would be releasing iOS 16.1 for iPhones as well as its iPad with OS16. The release date and time is Monday, October 24, at 10 a.m. PT, according to the tech giant. The Cupertino based company also released a list of features that have been added or updated in its iOS 16.1 Release Notes.
According to Apple the following features can be expected in the newest version of the operating system:
iCloud Shared Photo Library
Separate library that allows you to share photos and videos with up to 5 people. The feature contains filters, edit options, toggles and more.
Live Activities with support for third party apps
Dynamic Island and Lock screen for iPhone 14 Pro models provides third party live activities. It makes it easier for you to track activities from third party apps such as ride hailing, deliveries and more.
Apple Fitness+
The Fitness app will be supported on iPhone even without Apple Watch. However, the features would be limited when compared with what is available with Apple Watch.
Wallet
Users can safely share keys including car, hotel room and more with family and friends with the help of apps such as Messenger as well as WhatsApp.
Home
The OS will offer support for Matter which the tech company calls the new smart home connectivity standard. It enables smart home accessories to work compatibly across multiple platforms such as
HomeKit from Apple
Alexa from Amazon and
Home from Google.
Clean Energy Charging
This feature is only available in the US. It optimizes device charging time at times when cleaner energy sources are available on the energy grid.
Books
The OS will automatically hide reader controls as you start reading.
Apple Card Savings Account
The card allows users to open a “high-yield” savings account with Goldman Sachs. Daily rewards, no minimum deposits or balance etc are other features. The card can be managed in the Wallets app.
