Apple apologizes for ‘Crush’ ad showing destructive iPad Pro ad that offended fans

Apple (AAPL) has apologized on Thursday for its short video ad that offended fans. The Cupertino giant’s ad for promoting its iPad Pro raised derision instead of appreciation. In a rare step by the tech giant, the company posted an apology for its out of touch ad. The ad also appears to be insensitive at various levels as it not only seems to promote destruction but also seems to undermine human creativity as its destroys creative tools such as music equipment, lenses, books, paints and more.

Apple provided a statement to Ad Age, on Thursday. According to the statement, Tor Myhren, Apple’s president of marketing said, “Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world.”

The statement also read, “Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad. We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.”

The ad was run on X formerly known as Twitter on CEO Tim Cook’s official account on the platform as well as on Google’s YouTube. Ad Age said that Apple has decided not to run the ad on TV.

Apple introduced its new M4 powered iPad Pro on Tuesday. It launched the new device with an ad called Crush that literally crushed creatives with its crass destruction of creative instruments and tools instead of showing important features that would appeal to fans as they use an iPad to create.

The destructive element in the ad might gain publicity for Apple as it is being commented about on social media but it also made the company issue a rare apology.

Apple is seeing dwindling sales and creative web fans are a major market for the tech giant. Undermining creative implements and tools through destruction to promote a new device to creative fans, who use iPads as well as musical instruments, cameras, paints, books etc, is not in good taste.
