In the never ending saga of the real life divorce between “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” there is a new twist in the tale. Angelina Jolie says that she has “proof and authority in support “of domestic abuse claims that she had put up against Brad Pitt, her estranged husband. US Weekly has obtained legal documents that sustain the claim. She will be providing this evidence during the divorce trial. Brad Pitt has filed for joint custody of their minor children.
On March 12, a filing was put forward. It stated that Jolie is willing to testify about the supposed abuse. Testimony will be provided by their six children : Maddox, 19; Pax, 17; Zahara, 16; Shiloh, 14 and twins Knox and Vivienne 12. There are no details available in the document.
A source close to Pitt dismissed these allegations as yet another attempt to “hurt” the Oscar winner. Brad Pitt finally got an Oscar in 2020 for Best Supporting Actor in the film once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Jolie won her Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress in the film Girl Interrupted, two decades ago in 2000.
Jolie and Pitt began dating during or shortly after they acted in Mr. And Mrs. Smith in 2004, when the star was still married to Jennifer Aniston. They got married in 2014 and separated in 2016 due to “irreconcilable differences.” Their divorce battle is a messy ongoing procedure because Pitt wants joint custody.
There have been allegations of child abuse and the FBI and Department of Child and Family Services had investigated the claims after they split in 2016. The agencies closed the case, after several months, absolving Pitt of these allegations.
In 2017, Pitt had spoken about the case while featured on a 2017 GQ cover story. He had mentioned that one lawyer had said that no one wins in court and it was just a matter of who gets hurt the most. He had also said that it was jarring for the kids to have their family ripped apart and his partner agreed with this.
However, the saga seems to continue with this new filing where Angelina Jolie is once again accusing Brad Pitt of domestic abuse.
