The Doctor is making his presence felt not only in the multiverse but also at the movie houses as “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” continues to top the box office. It was in the number one position this week on Friday and has topped the weekend collection. A new movie, a sequel called “Downtown Abbey: A New Era” opened at the second position but its collection was much behind its original. For a change “The Bad Guys” didn’t finish last but managed to reach the third position.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse” from Disney is continuing its run on No.1 for the third weekend. It is expected to reach $318 million with weekend sales. The new movie at the box office this weekend has been Downtown Abbey: A New Era. The sequel is expected to get $16 million by the end of the collection on Sunday.

The original “Downtown Abbey” grossed much more in 2019 with a weekend opening of $31 million at the box office. It crossed $190 million in global box office collections. The A New Era sequel is not expected to do as well as the original. However, it has got a good score of 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Downtown Abbey: A New Era’s” success also lay in the fact that it brought back 45 to 55 year olds back to the theater. About 73 percent of the movie goers who came back to watch this movie after the pandemic are women. Older women have shown reluctance to go to watch movies in theaters after the pandemic. This is Focus’ best performance and Universal is planning to keep New Era on a 17-day exclusive theatrical window.
