Early on Tuesday morning, the Academy Awards nominations were announced and there were quite a few hits and misses. The 94th annual Academy Awards nominees were announced by Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan. The early morning event took place in Los Angeles and the Oscar Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on March 27.
The expected ones who found their names on the list were happy and those who did not expect to make it or debuted on the list were happy too. But those stars who expected to be nominated for an Oscar and were not were either puzzled, disappointed or angry.
Among those who were expected included the following:
Denzel Washington for Macbeth
Nicole Kidman for Being The Ricardos.
Those who were nominated for Best Actor include
Benedict Cumberbatch
Andrew Garfield
Will Smith
Javier Bardem
Denzel Washington.
Those who were nominated for Best Actress include
Jessica Chastain
Olivia Colman
Penelope Cruz
Kristen Stewart
Nicole Kidman.
Those who were expected to be on the list but were not included the following:
Lady Gaga for The House of Gucci
Jared Leto for The House of Gucci
Al Pacino for The House of Gucci
Ben Affleck for The Tender Bar
Jennifer Hudson for Aretha Franklin.
Be Alive by Beyonce Knowles-Carter & Darius Scott for King Richard and the title track of No Time To Die by Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell for No Time to Die make their debut in the Oscars for Original Song.
Last year, Beyonce became the only woman to be awarded the most Grammy awards with 28 awards. Although Billie Eilish is now twenty, she was less than 18 when she recorded the title track of the James Bond movie No Time To Die. This is not only her first nomination but is also the last time Daniel Craig will play the character of the iconic British agent 007.
Others in the same category include the following:
Dos Orugitas by Lin-Manuel Miranda for Encanto
Down to Joy by Van Morrison for Belfast
Somehow You Do by Diane Warren for Four Good Days.
The Power of The Dog got 12 nominations, followed by Dune with 10 and Belfast with seven.
