Celebrity Johnny Depp made an appearance as the awards show’s Moonman during the Sunday night live broadcast in a pre-recorded skit in which his face was digitally inserted into the helmet of the floating figure. He informed the audience at one point that he required the job. It was Johnny’s first TV appearance since 2017 on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, and pro-Depp supporters praised it as another milestone in his successful return to Hollywood.
Many people enjoyed celebrity actor Johnny Depp’s brief appearance at the VMAs, but it also caused some anger, particularly from Amber Heard’s sister, who attacked MTV. Whitney Henriquez is criticizing MTV for including Johnny Depp in the 2022 Video Music Awards just two and a half months after the Virginia defamation trial’s ruling.
Whitney reacted to the unexpected addition of Depp to the performance on her Instagram Story by posting the caption “I stand with Amber Heard” and a graphic renaming the occasion the “DVMA’s,” a supposed reference to domestic violence.
“@MTV you’re disgusting and clearly desperate!” she stated, expressing that she hoped none of their people have daughters.

Despite not mentioning Depp by name in her 2018 Washington Post op-ed about marital violence and abuse, a jury in Fairfax County, Virginia, found on June 1 that Heard, 36, had defamed the actor. The jury of seven members reached a judgment and gave Depp a $10.35 million damage award. He is now appealing the decision, while she is contesting the success of her countersuit. In contrast, Heard received a $2 million settlement in her defamation countersuit. Her lawyer said the following morning that she intends to appeal the judgment.
The trial result arrived a year and a half after Depp lost a libel case in the UK over a publication referring to him as a “wife beater. The London judge deemed the news source’s assertions to be “substantially true,” and Depp’s attempt to get the ruling overturned was rejected in March 2021.
The actor claimed in a statement following the recent Virginia verdict that the jury “given me my life back” and that the “best is yet to come” for him. The actress, on the other hand, described it as a “setback” for female activists. When the verdict was announced, her sister, who had testified on her side during the trial and was in the audience, also made a statement.
In the soon-to-be-released historical drama Jeanne du Barry, which celebrity actor Depp will also direct and which Al Pacino will co-produce, Depp will play King Louis XV. Celebrity Heard will make an appearance in the superhero prequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, whose December 2023 release date was postponed.
