Amarri Monroe scored 25 points and Grant Randall added 15 as Quinnipiac defeated Pitt 83-75 Sunday as part of the Legends Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Roman Siulepa finished with 20 points for the Panthers (4-3), who lost their second straight game.
Barry Dunning Jr. had 17 points for Pitt, Nojus Indrusaitis had 14 and Cameron Corhen scored 13 for the ACC school.
Dunning cut the Bobcats’ lead to 70-64 with a 3-pointer with 5:24 left, but Quinnipiac (4-2) took control from there.
Monroe hit back-to-back jumpers and Randall nailed a 3-pointer to make it 77-64 with 3:47 left.
Indrusaitis went on a personal seven-point run with two layups and a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 81-73 with 1:09 left, but Pitt could not get any closer.
The Bobcats led 47-37 at halftime, outshooting the Panthers 68% to 38.7%.
Monroe led the Bobcats with 20 points, hitting 3-of-4 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
Siulepa led the Panthers with 12 and Corhen had 10 in the first half.
The Bobcats took control in the first half with a 16-2 run, fueled by seven Monroe points, to lead 24-14 with 8:35 left in the half.
Siulepa was finally able to stop the bleeding with a layup, but the Panthers were scoreless for 4:06.
Pitt cut the lead to eight with a Indrusaitis 3-pointer, but Tai Turnage hit a jumper and Randall dunked to give Quinnipiac a 32-20 lead with 6:26 left.
Dunning scored a three-point play and a Siulepa free throw and a 3-pointer by Corhen cut the lead to 32-29 with 5:08 left.
The Bobcats finished with a flurry, however, with back-to-back 3-pointers by Samson Reilly and Randall that made it 43-33 with 1:56 left.
Demarko Minor hit a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left, but a Randall layup with three seconds left gave the Bobcats a 10-point lead at the break.
The Panthers went on a 14-4 run to start the second half to tie game 51-51 with 14:26 left.
Siulepa led the way with a dunk and a pair of layups during the run.
