On Thursday, the U.S. road safety regulator said that electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla would be recalling more than 475,000 of its Model 3 and Model S vehicles. The EV manufacturer will address issues of rearview camera as well as trunk issues as these issues have been increasing the risk of crashes. On Friday, China’s market regulator also said that around 200,000 vehicles of the EV maker will be recalled in the country.
Reuters also reported that Tesla shares fell by about three percent after the announcement in the morning but rebounded and traded a bit higher at $1,088.76. Tesla is expected to report its deliveries for the quarter by Saturday. It has reportedly delivered a record number of EVs.
According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had also discussed another camera issue with Tesla. This issue rose when the regulatory body was probing the company’s driver assist system.
The model years that are part of the recall are from 2014 to 2021.
The federal regulator said that 356,309 Model 3 vehicles would be recalled. They would be from years 2017 to 2020. The company will address rearview camera issues in these Tesla electric vehicles.
The NHTSA had said that “the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged by the opening and closing of the trunk lid, preventing the rearview camera image from displaying.”
The regulator also said that 119,009 Model S vehicles will be recalled. The company will fix front hood problems in these electric cars. Tesla said that latch problems in this model might make the trunk open “without warning and obstruct the driver’s visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Tesla has faced other investigations including a gaming features issue, where the screen allowed gaming, when the car was in motion. The NHTSA said that the EV maker had agreed to remove these features, when the car was in motion.
Tesla could not be reached for comment, according to Reuters.
