Allisha Gray scored 21 of her 25 points in the second half and Rhyne Howard added 21 as the Atlanta Dream held off the pesky Indiana Fever for a third straight victory, 100-94 on Sunday in Indianapolis.
Cheyenne Parker added 15 points and Nia Coffey scored 11 for Atlanta (5-5), which never trailed and shot 56.1 percent to win its fourth consecutive road contest.
Star rookie Aliyah Boston had 25 points and Kelsey Mitchell scored 24 for the Fever (4-7), who missed their first 12 3-point attempts and went 4-of-19 from distance. They also struggled to get key stops in the second half as they failed to secure a third straight win of their own.
Atlanta led by seven at halftime, but Howard scored a quick eight points out of the break. She sank a pair deep 2s, one 3-pointer and a free throw as the visitors scored 13 of the first 17 third-quarter points to build a 61-45 lead.
The Dream pushed that advantage to 18 in the third quarter and led 83-67 after a Coffey 3-pointer with 6:16 remaining in regulation. However, NaLyssa Smith (12 points) scored six during a 12-3 run that got Indiana within 86-79 with 3:36 to play.
Atlanta answered with a basket from Danielle Robinson and Coffey’s third 3 to pad their lead to 12. A 5-0 Fever run made it 91-84, but Gray followed with two free throws and a transition layup to keep the Dream in control.
Atlanta scored the final eight points of the first quarter to lead 23-14 after one. The Fever shot 4-of-20 during the opening period.
Parker scored the first basket of the second quarter to put the visitors up 11. The Dream pushed that lead to as many as 13 thanks to a combined 23 points from Howard and Parker through the first two quarters.
Indiana, despite missing all eight 3-point attempts spanning the first 20 minutes, got seven straight points from Boston during one stretch and went 15-of-20 from the free-throw line to trail 48-41 at the break.
