Restoring an unresolved case, a grand jury indicted Alec Baldwin on Friday on an involuntary manslaughter charge related to a fatal shooting that occurred in 2021 during a rehearsal for a film set in New Mexico.
Judges recently decided to postpone several civil lawsuits that sought damages from Baldwin and the “Rust” producers after prosecutors announced they would bring charges before a grand jury. A number of the film crew members are plaintiffs in those lawsuits.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in 2021 when a live round from Alec Baldwin’s pretend gun went off on the “Rust” movie set. The actor will go on trial in this case.
After some of the pistol’s components broke during FBI testing, replacement parts were used by ballistics and forensic testing professionals to reassemble Baldwin’s gun. The analysis concluded that the trigger had to have been pulled or depressed after looking at the firearm and the marks it left on a spent cartridge.
Hutchins’ family attorney, Gloria Allred, stated, “Our clients have always been interested in learning the truth regarding the events leading up to the unfortunate shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on October 21, 2021. In response to Friday’s indictment. “They continue to seek the truth in our civil lawsuit for them and would also like accountability in the criminal justice system.”
Baldwin might spend up to 18 months in jail if found guilty. There is no definite date for the trial.
