The Gilgo Murders, commonly known as the Long Island Serial Killer case, refers to a string of unsolved homicides involving a majority of female victims whose bodies were found along Ocean Parkway in Suffolk County, New York, between 2010 and 2011.
Heuermann had been on the radar of the specialized Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force for at least a year when he was caught after being linked by DNA, according to a source.

Heuermann is accused of looking up frightening topics on Google, such as “girl begging for rape porn,” “nude slave girls,” and “10-year-old schoolgirl,” using an email account with the alias Thomas Hawk.
According to court records, he also conducted more than 200 searches on topics such as “why could law enforcement not trace the calls made by the long island serial killer,” “unsolved serial killer cases,” “inside the Long Island Serial Killer and Gilgo Beach,” as well as the names of Brainard-Barnes, Barthelemy, and Waterman between March 2022 and June 2023.
Burner phones used to meet up with victims who were reputably sex workers.
Phone records don’t lie. Heuermann’s burner phone was used to meet up with three of the four victims, according to cell phone bills associated with him. Security footage that showed him acquiring more minutes for one of the cell phones at a store in Midtown Manhattan was also connected to him.
The burner phones that were used to contact Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Costello are also said to have been in the same approximate area as the suspect.
His whereabouts at the time he allegedly used Barthelemy’s phone to call her family were shown by Heuermann’s phone records.

He allegedly called Barthelemy’s sister, who was then 16 years old, on one of his burner phones while ridiculing, “Do you know what your sister is doing?” She is a prostitute.
When Heuermann was apprehended on Thursday night, one of the burner phones was discovered on him.

Shocking evidence found that Heuerman allegedly paid for the dating app with an American Express credit card using Google Pay. The investigation also turned up selfies Heuermann took and sent using the fictional AOL account Springfieldman9 and the false email Hunter1903a3@gmail.com. These were connections to his purported burner phones.
