A 34-year-old cab driver was arrested last month after allegedly raping two American students near their Rome lodging as they returned from an evening out. Antonio Macri allegedly assaulted the two women on October 14.
They took a taxi back to their Trastevere accommodations after leaving a bar. As soon as they got out of the car, one of the women became ill. The 34-year-old, who also worked as a cab driver, was accused of seizing the opportunity to attack the two women, approaching them from behind and striking each one separately.
One of the two women was able to capture images and video of him. On Tuesday, the 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of suspected sexual assault.
According to magistrate Angela Gerardi, Macri took advantage of the young women’s physical attributes. She claimed that after drinking, both women found it more difficult to resist his assault. He allegedly jumped on the second woman after assaulting the first. The first woman was simultaneously capturing pictures and video.
