Dontavia Waggoner pumped in a career-high 32 points and Teya Sidberry had 24 points as Boston College rallied from a 19-point deficit to beat Syracuse 76-73 in the opening game of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Wednesday at Greensboro, N.C.

JaKayla Thompson’s basket with 1:27 remaining gave No. 12 seed Boston College the lead and Sidberry added two free throws with 4 seconds left. Sidberry pulled down 17 rebounds.

The Eagles (16-16), who avenged a 25-point loss to the Orange from Sunday, meet No. 14-ranked North Carolina (25-6), the fifth seed for the tournament, on Thursday in the second-round game.

Sophie Burrows racked up 23 points for 13th-seeded Syracuse (12-18), which led 72-66 with less than three minutes remaining. Georgia Woolley had 16 points and Kyra Wood added 15 points.

Virginia 64, Pittsburgh 50

Kymora Johnson scored 17 points and delivered seven assists as the 10th-seeded Cavaliers won for the fifth time in their last six games.

The Cavaliers shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half, building on their 26-22 halftime edge.

Virginia (17-14) takes on seventh-seeded California (24-7) in the second round Thursday.

Khadija Faye provided 15 points and 11 rebounds for 15th-seeded Pitt (13-19), which fell to 2-12 all-time in ACC tournament games.

Clemson 63, Stanford 46

Loyal McQueen’s 17 points and Mia Moore’s 14, aided by four 3-pointers, boosted the No. 14 seed Tigers.

Anya Poole added 12 points for Clemson (14-16), which will go against No. 6 seed Louisville (20-9) on Thursday night in the second round.

No. 11 seed Stanford, in its first ACC tournament, trailed 27-16 at halftime and shot 31.5 percent for the game. Reserve Courtney Ogden scored 13 points as the Cardinal (16-14) finished a frustrating first season in the ACC.
