David Wigglesworth, known as “Wiggy” to friends and family, was involved in local politics prior to his death. He ran unsuccessfully for township committee as a Republican in 2019, according to New Jersey 101.5.
He also served on the planning committee and volunteered at the Atlantic City Boys and Girls Club.
Friends and family who know the couple are shocked by the news.
“I can’t believe it,” a mutual friend said on Facebook. “Our hearts have been shattered. We’ve known Dave and Mary for a long time. Bill had known them since he was a child in the old neighborhood. Bill ran into him a few days ago and spoke with him. We’re both sick about it. This cannot be true. Everyone’s prayers… I’m completely taken aback. Wiggy, rest in peace.”
