Authorities said that rapper King Von and another man were fatally shot on Friday at 3.20 a.m. outside Monaco Hookah Lounge, an Atlanta hookah bar. The police said that two officers, one of them off-duty confronted the shooters. This was followed by additional gunfire. Two suspects have been detained and are expected to be charged. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
King Von, an up-and-coming rapper from Chicago, released an album, “Welcome to O’Block,” last week. In a statement his representative said that he “emerged from difficult circumstances to become one of music’s most promising stars.” He added, “The 26-year old artist left us just as the world was beginning to grasp the depth of his talents.”
NBA star LeBron James tweeted his condolences on Friday. He posted about the impact King Von’s music had on his sons and on him. “Damn Rest Easy Von! Bronny, Bryce and I rocked with his music and storytelling! The kid had a damn good future ahead of him. My prayers and blessings to his family. #LeVonJames #KingVon – LeBron James (@KingJames) November 6, 2020.
Condolences poured into King Von’s family including one from Chance the Rapper, also a native of Chicago, who added “I can’t believe it,” in his tweet.
