Former President Donald Trump’s attorneys and federal prosecutors have been summoned to attend in court on Friday for a hearing to assist determine how evidence can be used and shared in the case. The hearing will help the federal judge presiding over the former president’s trial on allegations of attempting to rig the 2020 election.

John Lauro and Todd Blanche, Trump’s attorneys, argue that the prosecution’s requested order is overbroad and may partially silence their client, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination. Federal prosecutors retaliated in a court filing, claiming that Trump’s suggested changes to their order were “designed to allow him to try this case in the media rather than in the courtroom.”

Separately, Trump’s legal team submitted a motion to omit the 25 days between Trump’s first court appearance on Thursday and the hearing scheduled for August 28 from the calculation of the Speedy Trial Act’s time limit.

They claimed the proposed exclusion “is warranted by the complexity of this matter, including the substantial volume of discovery and novel questions of fact and law,” and they cited a federal provision that permits the court to omit specific periods of delay when it computes time restrictions to start a trial.

According to recently made public court records, special counsel Jack Smith secured a search warrant for former president Donald Trump’s Twitter account in January.

Due to delays in complying with the request, a federal judge found Twitter, renamed Elon Musk to X, in contempt and assessed the organization a $350,000 fine. Due to a “nondisclosure order” that prevented them from informing Trump about the warrant, Twitter first opposed the request for the warrant.
