Google EU Fines –

Yesterday Google was accused of promoting Google Shopping over non Google Shopping items violating EU antitrust law.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, will be subject to a fine equal to 5% of its worldwide earnings.

The EU takes the stance that a search engine is a utility that should be open to all equally. Google has a vested interest in promoting their own Shopping service before others.

In the US, this is not an issue. Google is a corporation that promotes its own goods and services. Shoppers can expect a Google search to yield results in Google Shopping.
