Donald Tusk brexit summit april –

Leaders of the other 27 member states had planned to offer an initial response at a summit on 6 April, but that date has now been pushed back because of the timing of the UK’s triggering of Article 50. Instead they will meet on 29 April, with a date for the beginning of UK-EU talks yet to be confirmed.

“In view of what was announced in London yesterday, I’d like to inform you that I will call a European Council on Saturday, the 29th of April, to adopt the guidelines for the Brexit talks,” Mr Tusk told reporters. “You know I personally wish the UK hadn’t chosen to leave the EU, but you will see the results will damage the UK economy. Therefore we must do everything we can to make the process of divorce the least painful for the EU.” {And the UK can frack off}

Reports this morning suggested negotiations could begin as late as 20 June, eating into the two-year timeframe prescribed by Article 50. It is thought there will need to be at least six months left free at the end of the process for the final agreement to be ratified by the parliaments of each EU member state.
